Julia was raised in the farming community of Reitz in the Free State where she matriculated in 2005. She studied medicine at the University of the Free State, after which she completed her internship at the Free State Academic Complex in Bloemfontein in 2012. She then moved on to Bethlehem where she did her community service year at Phekolong Hospital. In 2014 she joined the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu Natal. In 2015, she made the “big move” to Durbanville, where she did some locum GP work in the area, and finally joined the Department of Anatomical Pathology at Tygerberg hospital in 2016. She obtained the FC Path SA (ANAT) in 2020 and the MMed in Anatomical Pathology (Stell) in 2021. At the end of June 2021, she made the “big move” back to her roots in the Free State, where she joined the PathCare team in Bloemfontein.
