Dr Liani Smit is a Cape Town-based Clinical Geneticist who is dedicated to advancing genetic care in Southern Africa’s private healthcare sector. She combines compassionate, patient-centred care with a commitment to providing clinicians and patients with accurate, empowering information to support informed decision-making.

Liani completed her undergraduate medical training and postgraduate specialisation at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University, graduating cum laude in both degrees. Her diverse clinical background spans internal medicine, paediatrics, laboratory-based genetics, and patient-facing clinical genetics, enabling a holistic approach to genetic care. She has a special interest in complex prenatal and paediatric genetics, with a focus on integrating advanced genomic technologies in these areas.

After more than three years as a part-time consultant for PathCare, Liani has now joined the team as Lead Clinical Geneticist and Clinical Genetics Coordinator. In this role, she oversees the clinical genetics service, provides expertise in advanced genomic diagnostics, and promotes the integration of genetics and genomics into multidisciplinary healthcare settings.
