After completing residency at the University of Cape Town in 2001, Rustum joined the department of pathology at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, Cape Town, as a consultant pathologist. This was followed three years later by an 18 month locum consultancy in the Republic of Ireland. On his return to South Africa, he took up position as a histopathologist at PathCare laboratories in Cape Town. His interests include placental, prostate and paediatric pathology as well as immunohistochemistry. He has coauthored numerous international publications including articles published in Histopathology, Journal of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology, Australasian Journal of Dermatology and Paediatric Radiology.
