Dr Willie van Schalkwyk joined PathCare in Port Elizabeth in July 2014 and relocated to Cape Town in January 2017 as a Haematopathologist.
Born and schooled in Victoria West in the Northern Cape, Willie completed his MB ChB at Stellenbosch University in 1997. After completing his Intern year in Port Elizabeth, he spent some years in the Eastern Cape working in the fields of Accident and Emergency, Surgery and Psychiatry. He then worked as a General Practitioner.
Willie specialised in Haematopathology at the University of Cape Town. He was awarded his FC Path (Haem) in 2009 and obtained his M.Med degree in the same year.
He took up a position as consultant in the Haematology Department at the University of Cape Town and was based at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Here, he developed a keen interest in Paediatric Haematology and Oncology.
