Prof Dhiren Govender joined PathCare as a general histopathologist/cytopathologist from January 2020.  He completed his MBChB at the University of Natal. He joined the registrar training programme in Department of Anatomical Pathology at King Edward VIII hospital/University of Natal in July 1989. He completed his fellowship examination in April 1993 and registered as an anatomical pathologist in July 1993. He subsequently
obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK), MMed (Natal), PhD (Natal) and is an International Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. He was appointed to the position of Head of Division and Wernher and Beit Professor/Chair of Anatomical Pathology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town and National Health Laboratory Service, Groote Schuur and Red Cross Children’s hospital, a position he held from August 2003 until December 2019, upon joining PathCare. His research interests focused on the pathobiology and molecular aspects of various cancers. He is currently an Emeritus Professor at the University of Cape Town and continues to be involved in academic activities.  He is on the editorial board of international journals and has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and has collaborated in several international projects. Dhiren’s passion has always been diagnostic histopathology with special interests in bone and soft tissue, gastrointestinal, lymphoma, urogenital, endocrine and molecular pathology.
