Student Laboratory Assistant Programme
The Academy’s Laboratory Assistant Programme provides for training towards a nationally recognised qualification and career path at PathCare. The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) regulations indicate that all Laboratory Assistants must be formally trained in registered training laboratories, such as PathCare, and that trained candidates must write the HPCSA Board Examination. Only successful candidates are able to register as Laboratory Assistants with the HPCSA and are able to practise in the field.
The programme commences annually in April. The Certificate in Laboratory Assistance (NQF level 3) is a national qualification which was spearheaded by PathCare, and a member of PathCare chaired the Standards Generating Body for the development of the initial qualification. This programme is run in line with the approaches taken with our other full time programmes.
