PathCare utilizes the Treponema pallidum antibody assay as a screening test for syphilis. This is in line with international reporting standards.
The Treponema pallidum antibody test is an economic and reliable automated syphilis serology test. It utilizes an immunoturbidimetric method where polysterene latex particles are coated with Treponema pallidum. When antibodies against T. pallidum are present in a serum sample, agglutination takes place. An alteration in turbidity of the test medium is then recorded and interpreted by an automated system. The test is specific for antibodies against T. pallidum and has a high sensitivity to detect all stages of infection.
